Cowboy Poetry
with Leon Flick, Gerlach School
To know and to hear Leon Flick is to know he is a cowboy. To read Leon, without knowing him, is to know he is a cowboy. Leon’s verse and prose speak clearly to the brotherhood of the saddle who can easily discern whether or not the writer has been there. Very few are as adept as Leon Flick in capturing the tragedy of the insignificant things a cowboy faces day to day.

ALL DAY TOUR: High Rock Canyon. Limited to 8 vehicles, carpooling recommended.
Led by Roger Farschon, BLM
Spend a day visiting the hot springs at Soldier Meadows and the lower portion of High Rock Canyon. Learn something about the local geology, wild flowers, history and unique species. Walk portions of the emigrant trail. Hear what the emigrants had to say. See some spectacular scenery. If we are lucky we will see bighorn sheep and wild horses. Learn about efforts to protect and manage the important resources.
The trip will be limited to 8 vehicles, so we will carpool as much as we can. Vehicles need to have high clearance and good tires (10 ply rating and an extra spare are recommended).
Bring your lunch, plenty of water, sturdy shoes, binoculars, sunscreen, layers (you never know what the weather will be) and all your questions. Plan on a long day.

manufactured by Link and on to Barrel Springs. This area known as the
Double O Mining district was a hot bed of activity during the great
depression. The next top is back on the emigrant trail at Rabbit Hole
Springs. The next stop is Crescent Hill after which we will pick up the
