Dear Matthew,
Wow! The Black Rock Rendezvous turned out to be an awesome event! Although rain threatened over Memorial Day weekend, all of our tours and projects were pulled off successfully. Big thanks to Albino!, the Tahoe Fire Dancers and DaveX & Crimson for the music, fire performances and fireworks display. Many more thanks to the Nevada Outdoor School, the BLM, and all of our partners, tour leaders and volunteers who helped make it happen. Most of all, thanks to all of you who attended and continue to support our mission. We raised over $4,000.00 from new memberships, donations, and our raffle. If you took photos, we'd love to see them-- please get in touch.

Volunteers needed in Gerlach!
It's FUN to volunteer at the visitor center in Gerlach! And, we need you. If you have some working knowledge of the Black Rock Desert, are prepared to camp for 2 to 3 days, and can get yourself to Gerlach for a weekend, you can come help us engage the public-- we'll even get you 50 cents a mile for your travel.
The visitor center (we've been calling it the VCT) is currently situated next to the water tower park in Gerlach. We work with the BLM to staff it with helpful volunteers who can provide maps and information to the public every weekend from April through October, and at other events like Burning Man and the Nevada Day Parade. Shifts in Gerlach are Fri. through Sun., 10 am to 4 pm, but it's flexible.
Once we show you the ropes, it's easy to do. Some very interesting people stop by. You'll probably find that you know more about the Black Rock Desert then you thought, and still learn even more. The Friends office is nearby and we're in town to support you-- and you get to sleep under the stars or go to your other favorite spots. Check our calendar and combine your visit with another event. If you don't want to camp, we may help find you a place in town to stay. We'll either reimburse 50 cents a mile, or count it as a tax deduction-- your choice when you fill out the travel form. You also get the T-shirt and the patch-- volunteer for 20 hours and we'll get you the limited edition Friends of Black Rock hoodie.
C'mon, you know you love it here, and the Friends of Black Rock needs your help. Sign up for a shift, or contact us for more information.
